Riverview Junior School recognises the vital contribution of physical education to a child’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional development as well as the role it can play in a child’s spiritual, moral and cultural development.
At Riverview Junior School we are committed to delivering high quality PE through an exciting range of physical activities which also provide opportunities for competition, self-improvement and learning good team work, sportsmanship and self-discipline. This year we have introduced a new scheme of work which offers a wider coverage of sports, including a few new ones.

An orienteering day has been planned for all year groups in the Summer Term as well as multiple taster days throughout the year which we will keep you updated on.
We are delighted to be able to introduce swimming lessons on a Friday afternoon, taught by a qualified swim instructor at Cascades swimming pool. Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed their swimming lessons in Term 1 and this will filter through the year groups as the year progresses.
These lessons are compulsory and will enable us to meet the DfE requirement that by the end of KS2 all children should be able to:
· swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
· use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
· perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
