Modern Foreign Language Policy

 

 

 

At Riverview Junior School, all children are given the opportunity to learn a language and extend their knowledge of different cultures.  We believe that developing communication skills and learning more about the world are vital elements of our learning journey.

 

 

 

 

This year, we are excited to introduce Spanish in all year groups.  Children will develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills through a rich and varied input of the language.  We will use games, songs, stories and role play to maximise enjoyment as well as ensure that the children have opportunities to listen to native speakers.  We will aim to embed languages in class routines and school life and where possible integrate language learning across the curriculum to connect it with other subject areas.

The children will also learn about basic grammar appropriate to Spanish and develop accurate pronunciation and intonation so that others understand them when they are reading aloud or using familiar words and phrases.
